Learn TCM
Where It Was Born
A 14-day intensive programme in Beijing with 9 bedside clinical observation sessions at a leading TCM teaching hospital. See real patients. Watch real treatments.
9 Bedside Observations.
Real patients. Real medicine.
This isn't a programme where you sit in a lecture hall and read case studies. Across five full days, you'll be placed directly inside clinical departments at BUCM's Third Affiliated Hospital — one of Beijing's leading TCM teaching hospitals.
You'll stand alongside experienced physicians as they diagnose and treat real patients: watching acupuncture performed in real time, seeing herbal prescriptions written for real conditions, and following cases from consultation through to treatment.
With 9 observation sessions spread across multiple specialities, the sheer volume of first-hand patient contact is something most international students simply cannot access at home.
Observe. Learn. Experience.
The 2026 Beijing Summer School in Traditional Chinese Medicine, hosted by Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM), takes you from the lecture theatre straight to the hospital ward. You won't just study TCM theory — you'll see it practised on real patients, in real clinical settings, every day for an entire week.
Beyond the hospital, you'll attend expert-led lectures covering acupuncture research, herbal pharmacology, Tuina manual therapy, and meridian palpation — taught by BUCM professors and senior clinicians, including sessions on the legacy of the renowned acupuncturist Prof. Wang Juyi.
You'll also practise Ba Duan Jin wellness exercises, explore the philosophy of "Food as Medicine", visit a traditional Chinese pharmaceutical company, and tour BUCM's Liangxiang campus. With two free days built into the schedule, you can plan your own Beijing adventures — the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, or even a bullet train to Shanghai.
